5 Myths About Hiring a Tech VA

I know what you may be thinking when we talk about letting someone else work on your business or adding someone to your team. You're thinking that you know your business better than anybody else and someone new won’t be able to do it right. Or that you're too much of a Type A and you can't relinquish some of the duties (or more of the duties! You already had to do that once!)

Or, you've heard someone's horror story of how they hired someone who promised to be everything they dreamed of, but didn't receive half (or any!) of the services promised.

I get it. It's absolutely terrifying sometimes, to think about letting someone else into the business you've worked so hard to build. What if you don't click? What if they don't deliver? What if they screw something up royally?

Truth is, that's the reality of working with someone else. But, you're totally hurting yourself when it comes to the growth of your business.

So let’s debunk some of these myths around working with a tech VA that are keeping you from taking that next step. I'd love to hear about some of your other concerns in the comments below!

No one else can work like you. I think this is a very common one for a lot of people. Your business is your baby. I totally get that. I'm the same way with mine. But think about this for a second. You have the ability to help people achieve great things. But the backside of that is that your business has to operate. And while you may be really good at making that happen, there may be someone better. And that person could take that entire level of stress away from you (or help de-stress your team) so you can focus on what you actually enjoy doing. Which means... bringing more money into your business. WORD.

You have to hire based on where you are not where you want to be. No! You absolutely have to invest in your business in order to move forward. Those investments can start off as app and software purchases that allow you to automate some of your systems. But eventually, you’ll need extra hands and an extra brain too. And when that happens, you want someone who can help you move your business forward. Not just someone who can help you right now that you’ll have to replace sooner than later. Adding a tech VA to your team might just let your current VA move up to an OBM role. Think about it. That could completely open up the possibilities of your business.
You can’t afford to hire someone. I mean, can you afford not to? Think about it. How much do you make an hour? Now, how much time do you spend on admin and behind the scenes work? Now imagine if you took the money you are paying yourself for the admin work and hired that work out. Now you can use those hours to work with more clients, bringing in more money. How about that? 😉
You need to be 100% organized before you can hire help. Then you can bet your bottom dollar that it will never happen. #truthbomb I really don’t think any of us are 100% organized all of the time. And that’s ok. When it comes to your business, you don’t have to be there before you hire someone. Hiring someone can help you get there faster.
You have to spend time training the person you hire. Ehh, there’s a little yes and no to this one. Yes, you need to have a planning session with the person you hire as your tech VA to go over exactly what you want them to do. But, you won’t need to train them in the different platforms and software you use. Either they will already know how to use these programs, or they will be tech savvy enough to learn them on their own very quickly. That’s why they do what they do!

You are way more ready to hire a tech VA and outsource some of your business than you think you are. It may cost a little bit in the beginning, sure. But ultimately, you will be hiring a team member who will be right beside you for the long haul! Think of the possibilities!
